Everyone looks forward to the weekend, but staff that are over-excited at the thought of a break are more likely to be harbouing ill will towards their boss, new research has revealed.
The study conducted by the National Bureau of Economic Research has found that for workers who view their manager as a friend the joy of the weekend is significantly smaller than those who see them as a “boss”.
The data was collected over a period of four years, taken from answers given to the Gallup-Healthways US Daily Poll and Index. The report asked each respondent to choose one emotion, from a list of seven, to summarise how they felt on each particular day.
For employees with a positive perception of work life, their happiness level was just three per cent higher at the weekend compared to the other group, whose enjoyment levels were seven per cent higher. They also laughed four percent more.
