Sleepless night employees costing economy £453m

A staggering one in five UK workers have called in sick due to a bad night’s sleep, according to a new report.

Research by bed manufacturing company Sealy UK has found that a rising number of employees are regularly forgoing sleep and pulling sickies, costing the economy a potential £453m in lost productivity.

The study, which focused on 1,000 workers across the UK, uncovered that a surprising 32% of employees are waking up still tired from the previous night. It is this statistic which is causing so many of us, 21% to be exact, to ‘pull a sickie’.

The findings also suggested that men are six per cent more likely to take the day off work than women.
