MP claimed 9p petrol expenses for 350 yard journey

The MP for Reading East has made claims for 160 journeys under £1 since 2010.

Rob Wilson, the Minister for Civil Society, has admitted that the claims may appear ‘odd.’ Between April 2014 and March 2015 he claimed a total of £21,808, according to the Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority (IPSA).

MPs are allowed to claim 20p per mile for bike journeys and up to 45p a mile for car journeys under the rules set by IPSA.

Conservative MP Wilson’s claims include nine pence for a 350 yard car journey, which is less than the distance across Waterloo Bridge. He also claimed 60p for riding his bike to work.
