McDonald's worker couldn't claim £10 reward due to company policy

A McDonald’s employee was denied the right to claim a reward after finding and returning a bag with over £200 inside.

Marky Thompson was collecting refuse outside of the fast food chain in Hinckley, Leicestershire, when he came across the bag full of £10 and £20 notes. After handing the find in to his managers at McDonalds, the owner of the money came forward as taxi firm owner Russell Kew.

When Kew tried to give Thompson £10 as a thank you gift for being so honest, he was told that it was McDonald’s policy to give all tips to charity, and that Thompson would be unable to accept the token gesture.

Kew commented: “The driver was absolutely devastated. He had worked all night for the £15 he was paid for his last fare. He thought he'd put some diesel in the car and that would be it. When I told him he couldn't believe it.
