Goodyear's laid-off UK staff offered alternative work - in Mexico

With the closure of a Goodyear tyre factory in Wolverhampton imminent, staff have been offered alternative employment 5,000 miles away.

Goodyear’s new £350million facility is in San Luis Potosi, Mexico. It will employ 1,000 workers and is expected to produce tyres for the growing market in the Americas.

The automotive company announced that it would be closing the midlands factory last month, at the loss of 330 jobs. Shortly afterwards, a notice appeared on the factory floor inviting them to reapply at their new Mexican premises.

Workers were told there were vacancies in HR, production, and quality departments at the factory.
