Distractions cost businesses $300bn a year

Employees are more distracted than ever due to social media updates and email alerts. The average worker is distracted by an IM, tweet or Facebook message every 10.5 minutes, taking an extra 23 minutes to return to the task at hand.

All in all, these distractions are costing American businesses up to $300billion every year.

Research from Sapience Analytics, a workforce management software development company, has used insights gained from over 200 million hours of data, which tracked how staff work over a period of time. The results were quite surprising.

The findings have shown that the US workforce has become somewhat emotionally detached from their respective jobs, with 87% claiming they are no longer personally invested in their vocation.
