Female Professors of Science are thousands of pounds paid less than men for carrying out similar duties and tasks, according to a new report.
The study, which looked at the latest university salaries of senior scientists, found discrepancies in the annual pay between the genders.
In Bristol University and in London School of Economics (LSE) the research found that the difference between male and female scientists wage was as much as £21,000. The salary figures were released due to the freedom of information act and requests from staff at the institutions.
Professor Uta Frith, Head of Equality and Diversity at the Royal Society, branded the discrimination as “shameful”, in an interview with The Independent. “I think the data provided shows fairly conclusively that over and above any other differences, gender is a factor.
