BBC staff break rules trading teenagers internships

BBC staff have broken employment rules by using an intern swapping website in order to find their own children placements.

Myinternswap.com allows parents to offer internships at their place of work in exchange for similar opportunities for their own children. One employee at the BBC posted an internship on the site promising experience in radio, web and news publishing.

In return, they wanted a placement for their 17 year old son, who is currently attending £15,000 per year City of London School for Boys, to be given an internship in law.

Tanya de Grunwald, Founder of careers website Graduate Fog, said in an interview with The Guardian: “It effectively encourages parents in managerial roles in desirable professions to trade CV-enhancing career opportunities amongst each other, locking out those from less privileged backgrounds.
