Gone with the blast wave: How your HR and recruitment skills can save you in a post-apocalyptic wasteland

The post-apocalyptic wasteland is back in style with the success of the movie Mad Max: Fury Road. It is set decades after nuclear bombs blew modern civilisation into oblivion, and the survivors have formed new tribe societies which squabble over the limited resources. If you think that has nothing to do with HR, then think again.

“If you look at some of the changes in the world of work today, it is actually not that far off from a post-apocalyptic scenario,” Ksenia Zheltoukhova, Research Adviser at CIPD, says with a laugh. “I don’t mean the decline of civilisation, obviously, but I mean more in the terms of uncertainty, complexity and the constantly increasing change in the world of work.

“These changes require you to be very creative in how you match, to the best of your ability, the people’s needs and the organisational needs.”
