A Harrods kitchen supervisor who was suspended and accused of theft after taking home half a pie to eat at the end of her shift has had her suspension lifted.
Anthea Harding who works for Eurest, the workplace caterin contractor for the department store, was entitled to a free lunch every day as part of her contract, but was unaware that staff were forbidden from taking free staff food home with them.
Harding told the Evening Standard that she had to work through her break, so she was unable to finish her free lunch. When she took the pie home at the end of the day, she was searched by a plain clothed security guard, who informed her that management would be contacted.
Over 8,000 people signed a petition calling for her to be reinstated. The petition read: "She has been told that it is company policy to eat free lunches on the premises, but she wasn't aware of this, and did not want to throw away her lunch just because she had been given no time to eat it. She earns £7.50 an hour and the free lunch is an important contribution to her wage. Please support her immediate reinstatement."
