Alliance Trust CEO: My £1.3m pay wouldn't have been scrutinised if I were a man

Kathrine Garrett-Cox, CEO of Alliance Trust, has come under scrutiny as she claims that her recent pay package of £1.4 million would not have attracted so much media attention had she been a man.

Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live, Garrett-Cox claimed that she was shocked by the amount of coverage she was receiving and admitted that her gender probably played a huge part in it.

She said: “Would that have happened if I was a man in the City? Probably not. You and I know that the media are always seeking to put a woman on the front page — for good or for bad. I can decide many things in terms of the business I manage, what I get paid is not one of them.”
