Uber blamed for plummeting London black cab applicant numbers

London’s famous black cabs blame Uber for 20% drop in driver applicants, says Bloomberg research from Transport for London.

With cheap fares, fast availability and convenient payment methods, Uber Technologies Inc. has gained considerable speed in the transportation industry, but London taxi drivers have turned against the U.S taxi app as their numbers start to dwindle.

The research showed that the number of applicants for taxi exam ‘The Knowledge’ have declined by over two-thirds at a main examination centre. ‘The Knowledge’ requires a possible four years of study and the memorisation of 20,000 landmarks and 25,000 streets across London.
