Woolworths workers lose compensation

 

Thousands of ex-Woolworths employees have lost their battle for redundancy compensation after a European Court Ruling.

The European Court of Justice backed a UK law that states stores with fewer than 20 staff are not obliged to consult with staff over redundancies.

The case, brought by unions USDAW and Unite on behalf of 3,200 former Woolworths staff and 1,200 Ethel Austin employees, followed the closure of stores in 2008.
