Sainsbury's cuts 800 UK jobs

Sainsbury’s has announced it will be cutting 800 jobs as competition rises among Britain’s grocers.

Alongside Britain’s other ‘big four’ grocery chains, Sainsbury’s is eager to combat falling sales and profits amidst the rise of discount retailers, Aldi and Lidl, with these new job losses a part of their efforts to save £500m of costs over the next three years.

Sainsbury’s has also planned a remodel of its staff, with the positions of department and deputy manager being cut in some stores, and night shift workers being replaced by early morning and evening shift workers.
