National Gallery enduring week-long strike over privatisation

 

Workers at the National Gallery are going on strike this week after disagreements over a proposed privatisation plan were left unresolved.

The world’s fourth most-visited gallery is set to have visitor services provided by an outside company, a decision which has culminated in the strike that is currently being held this week. Staff also plan to strike on May 1st 2015.

The Public and Commercial Services Union (PCS) general secretary, Mark Serwotka, said: “It is cynical of the gallery to try to press ahead with this sell-off in the run-up to the general election and before the new director has taken over. The process should be halted now and we should be given a proper chance to discuss maintaining services in-house.”
