TfL spending millions on 'stressed' staff

Transport for London (TfL) is spending millions on counselling for its staff due to ‘stress’ and the ‘massive pressure’ of cuts.

A Freedom of Information (FoI) request by London Loves Business has showed that the figure equates to £3.1million from 2010 to 2014, and has helped over 4,750 employees for issues including stress and anxiety, depression and train suicide. This comes as Boris Johnson announces the closure of over 250 ticket offices, a decision that will save TfL £50million a year.

TfL responded to the FoI request with the following statement: “The health and well-being of staff is extremely important for any business but it is paramount for an organisation like Transport for London where more than 11 million journeys take place on the TfL network every day and we need to ensure that both our passengers and 29,000 employees are as safe as possible.
