TV5Monde staff accidently revealed sensitive information during a TV broadcast about the previous day’s ISIS hack that saw the station taken off air.
On Wednesday 8 April 2015 the TV station was taken off air by hackers claiming to be part of the jihadist group Islamic State (IS). The cyber-attack effected TV5Monde’s TV station, website and social media accounts.
The next day staff were interviewed in a TV broadcast that was filmed in front of a wall that had sheets of paper with sensitive information stuck to it. David Delos, was filmed expressing his frustration with the attack while sat in front of what is thought to be the passwords for the channel’s social networks.
Other footage showed passwords written on Post-it notes stuck on employee’s computer monitors.
It is said that the passwords (translated in to English) were as simple as “youtubepassword” and the equivalent of “qwerty12345”.
This comes after GCHQ recently warned firms that employees are the ‘weakest link in the security chain’ when it comes to cyber-attacks.
