An initiative to increase diversity amongst high court judges that aim to place those with no experience directly on to high court benches has been launched by Lady Justice Hallett.
The initiative is specifically aimed at women, those from BAME backgrounds, and ‘less advantaged’ white applicants. ‘Less advantaged’ is defined as applicants who attended state school or had parents who did not attend university.
Hallett said in a video launching the initiative “The appointments system is now far more open than it was and the judiciary is becoming more diverse year on year … [but] we fear that we may be missing out on a pool of talent for whom the traditional route is not an option.”
