Premier League clubs agree to pay staff living wage

All 20 Premier League clubs have agreed to pay living wage to full-time employees by the start of the 2016/17 season.

The Premier League announced that it is going to share at least £1billion of their mammoth £5.136billion UK TV rights deal (a figure which could rise to £8.5billion once international sales are factored in) with grassroots football and lower league sides. This money will include a living-wage for full-time staff. Before this announcement, the only team to pay staff living wage was Chelsea FC.

Rhys Moore, Director of the Living Wage Foundation, told the BBC “It is definitely a move in the right direction. However, the vast majority of low-paid work in the Premier League is with sub-contractors.
