Sleepless on the Sabbath - Staff kept awake by work worries on Sunday

Feeling drained, fatigued, or sluggish today? If you are, it may be because you are suffering from “Sunday-somnia”. One in five Britons struggles to fall asleep every Sunday, with 56% of  “Sunday-somniacs” getting less than four hours sleep, with the average Briton getting six and a half hours sleep.

Jason Ellis, Professor of Sleep Science at Northumberland College said: “As a general rule, the average person needs around eight hours sleep a night to feel the full restorative benefits. This is particularly true of people who have very physically or mentally challenging jobs.”

Even the thought of commuting causes unrest, with ten per cent saying the thought of a dreaded Monday morning commute keeps them awake at night, a study carried out by Tune Hotels Group found.
