Workers spend a third of wages on commute

Hard-pressed rail commuters are spending at least a third of their salaries on their commute to work, according to the Transport Salaried Staffs Association.

Long-distance travellers are the worst hit and are forced to fork-out over £9,000 a year in train fares and car parking fines.

This has provoked the union to launch a series of protests outside stations against the ‘persecution’ of rail travellers.
