Rail worker fired after explaining to customers why food was sub-standard

Rail staff have threatened strike action after a co-worker was fired for explaining to angry passengers why they had been served below-par food.

Mark Doughty, Catering Crew Leader, was dismissed by East Coast trains after explaining to customers that due to a staff shortage and a broken boiler, the cooked breakfast they should have received could not be served. East Coast management said he has brought the company into disrepute.

Members of the RMT are now being balloted over industrial action to demand his reinstatement.
