Long working hours linked to “risky” levels of alcohol consumption

Employees who work for more than 55 hours a week are 13% more likely to engage in ‘risky’ levels of alcohol consumption, according to new research.

The link has sparked calls for employers to use the European Union Working Time Directive which ensures EU member states guarantee that working hours must not exceed 48 hours per week on average, including overtime.

Britain opts out because workers can volunteer to work more hours.
