
Pope Francis has named a diverse collection of 15 new cardinals that hail from a variety of nations such as Tonga, New Zealand, Cape Verde, Ethiopia and Myanmar, according to a statement from the Vatican.
Francis said that the new cardinals, "from every continent, manifest the indissoluble links between the Church of Rome and the particular Churches present in the world," according to the statement.
Francis also announced that five retired archbishops and bishops who are "distinguished for their pastoral charity" will be recognized as cardinals.
