Network Rail boss will 'not take bonus this year'

Following a Christmas period saturated with rail disruptions, the Chief Executive of Network Rail has announced that he will not take his bonus.

Mark Carne was due to receive a bonus of up to £34,000 but overrunning engineering work over the Christmas holidays which led to the closure of London King's Cross station causing major travel disruptions for thousands of people.

Carne, who earns £675,000 a year, told Sky News: “I am accountable for the railways and the performance [over Christmas] was not acceptable so I have decided that I should not take my bonus this year”.
