
Marks and Spencer CEO, Marc Bolland, will likely face tough questioning from shareholders this week, as sales of the company’s general merchandise fall ahead of the business’ annual meeting.
Despite revamp efforts and a recently implemented turnaround strategy – which Bolland is set to defend tomorrow – City analysts have predicted a 1.5% fall in like-for-like sales in company’s general merchandise arm for the last three months.
The expected decline in the category, which includes clothing, comes after Bolland overhauled the retailer’s clothing management team and focuses funds on opening stores abroad, consolidating its distribution network and revamping the company’s website.
