Centrica CEO faced 'near mutiny' over bonus surrender

Centrica's CEO, Sam Laidlaw, has faced a backlash from the rest of the board over his decision to give up his £1.7million bonus.

Laidlaw announced he would forgo his bonus in November at the CBI conference where he said although pay decisions were made independently ‘to continue in this world where households are under pressure, and assume it is business as normal, is not the way thoughtful remuneration committees think about it’.

According to Management Today, Laidlaw’s decision caused a ‘near mutiny’ from senior colleagues who felt pressured to follow his lead.
