18% of UK staff don't get paid extra for working Christmas Day

Whilst for many Christmas is a time of rest, festivities and endless amounts of turkey, for 1 million people in the UK it’s just another work day.

Yet are employers paying their Christmas workforce enough? A new report from RIFT has revealed the financial cuts by employees when rewarding their staff for working Christmas Day.

The report, which was commissioned by the tax refund specialists and surveyed 2,000 UK employees, revealed that 18% of employees will only get paid normal rate without any added pay benefits.

Among those who do enjoy extra benefits, 8% will receive time and a quarter, 20% will get time and a half, 35% will get double pay and 10% will receive triple pay for working on the 25th December.
