11% of parents think their children are “too clever” for apprenticeship

11% of parents think their children are “too clever” for apprenticeships and school leaver programmes, a new study finds.

The AllAboutSchoolLeavers study shows that recruiters risk missing out on great apprentices in the future due to their mothers' and fathers' attitude.

The career information site surveyed over 10,000 school and college students, 1,000 parents, 500 teachers and 280 careers advisors across the UK. It also surveyed 27 employers offering apprenticeships and school leaver programmes.

80.8% of the students go to their parents for career advice, the study finds.
