Monster and NGA Human Resources: Why a third of UK workers are unhappy at work

A third of UK workers hate their jobs, according to new research from Monster.

The jobs site has polled 2,844 UK workers. The results reveal that 38% of employees on the UK labour market don’t like their jobs. 32% said that they occasionally liked their jobs. 18% stated that they liked their jobs most of the time, only 12% UK workers always love their jobs.

Andy Sumner is the Managing Director at Monster UK & Ireland. He comments: “Being happy in your job is so important. Spending so many hours every week doing something you don’t enjoy, or working in an environment that doesn’t suit you, can really inhibit career progression and personal productivity levels. Sustained unhappiness at work can even have detrimental effects on your health and wellbeing.”

The results reveal that only 23% said that they were unhappy at work and 36% said that they felt unappreciated at work. As a consequence of that unhappiness, 28% of employees are now actively looking for a new job.
