NHS executives received a collective pay rise of more than £35m last year, making the average salary over £40,000 higher than the Prime Ministers.

A comprehensive audit of trust accounts and NHS pension schemes by The Daily Mail has discovered that the 6% senior level wage increases were not in line with the 1% increase that nurses received. Figures from Sky News also indicate that if NHS executives had increased their pay at the same rate as nurses, then the NHS would have saved £28.5million, enough money to hire over 1,300 nurses.

The audit discovered that nearly 948 NHS bosses earn more than £100,000 a year, with 598 of these having a pay package bulkier than the PM (£142,500), a 30% increase from last year. 47 directors received over £400,000 last year, with the top earner collecting £1.26million.
