Models of efficiency | Which companies have the most 'valuable' employees?

Nvidia, McDonald's, Apple, Netflix logos

Tech firms Nvidia, Apple, and Netflix are among the best known brands topping a list of revenue per employee data showing which organizations generate the most value from their workforces.

New research from Ondeck into the amount of revenue generated by each employee in the US reveals that a little-known New York-owned property investment firm is the most efficient, with more than $142m contributed by each worker. Ondeck sourced revenue and employee count data from the Forbes Global 2000 list and the 50 biggest fast food chains in America, dividing the revenue by the employee count to give RPE (revenue per employee).

Businesses continue to use RPE as a way to assess workforce efficiency by dividing total revenue by staff count. The measure is not flawless, since it can ignore culture and other intangible strengths, but it remains a practical way to monitor value productivity and long-term performance. It also helps leaders compare outcomes over multiple years and across similar organizations.

US investment trusts surge in RPE standings

Topping the national list is VICI Properties, which describes its business as acquiring and developing gaming, hospitality and entertainment properties, with a portfolio concentrated on the Las Vegas Strip. Its 27 employees contributing to $3.85bn in revenue in 2024, equal to $142.5m for each worker. It was formed in 2017 as a spin-off from Caesars Entertainment Corporation as part of its bankruptcy reorganization. It owns 54 casinos, hotels, and racetracks, four golf courses, and 38 bowling alleys around the US and Canada.

Chief executive Edward Pitoniak said the company’s mix of gaming and non-gaming exposure “gives us a growth, opportunity, and a total return opportunity that is truly compelling and differentiated.”

Across the broader US rankings, investment trusts hold half of the top 20 spots, energy firms follow next, along with several finance companies.

Big tech’s top performers show sharp contrasts

Among major technology firms, NVIDIA leads with $4.40m per employee, supported by 29,600 staff generating $130.5bn in revenue. Workers cite a corporate focus on employee well-being, while a small staff survey suggested 76-78% of employees are millionaires through stock options.

Netflix trails closely with $4.15m per employee from a workforce of 9,600 and annual revenue of $39.87bn. The company stopped reporting quarterly subscriber totals in 2025, prioritizing revenue and profit updates instead. Apple workers contribute $2.4m per worker; Meta $2.2m and Google owner Alphabet, $1.95m.
