Recruit Holdings owner of Indeed and Glassdoor, says approximately 1,300 roles will be eliminated across its HR Technology segment, primarily affecting the US and touching multiple teams across Indeed and Glassdoor.

The job cuts represent about 6% of the division’s global workforce and are part of a siginificant corporate restructure, which will also see new leadership at Glassdoor.

The announcement by Recruit CEO Hisayuki “Deko” Idekoba, said: “We anticipate reducing our headcount by approximately 1,300 people across Indeed and Glassdoor, representing around 6% of the HR Technology segment workforce.”

Functions affected include R&D, GRO, and People & Sustainability. Reductions will be made across multiple countries in compliance with local labor laws. According to the memo: “Everyone will be informed of their status within the next hour, or during their local working hours.”

The company also plans to bring Glassdoor’s operations into the core Indeed business to create “a simpler hiring experience for job seekers and employers.” As part of the integration, Glassdoor CEO Christian Sutherland-Wong will step down after 10 years with the company. His departure is effective October 1.

Leadership exits mark a wider internal reorganization

“Christian Sutherland-Wong, CEO of Glassdoor, has decided to leave after 10 years with the company, effective October 1,” the memo read. Owen Humphries will assume the role of President of Glassdoor and report to Recruit CEO Hisayuki “Deko” Idekoba.

In addition, Indeed’s Chief People & Sustainability Officer, LaFawn Davis, will exit the company on September 1 after six years of service. Ayano Senaha will step in to lead the team. “I’d like to thank LaFawn for her leadership, her passion for helping employees, job seekers and employers, and for driving and supporting Indeed and Recruit Group’s sustainability goals,” Idekoba said.

Leadership teams will meet with employees next week to discuss the new structure. “Next week your team’s leaders will meet with you to discuss what’s next, our updated organizational structure, and how we will build an even stronger culture.”

The moves follow ongoing restructuring at the company, which saw prior layoffs in both 2023 and 2024.

For those leaving, Idekoba closed his message with: “Thank you for all you have brought to Indeed and for the support you have given to job seekers and employers around the world.”
