Artificial intelligence roles top LinkedIn's US 'Jobs On The Rise' report

Artificial intelligence is dominating the US job market, with LinkedIn’s 2025 “Jobs on the Rise” report revealing two AI-related roles topping its list of fast-growing positions.

The just-published annual report outlines key trends shaping the employment landscape and highlights opportunities for HR leaders and hiring managers.

Artificial intelligence engineer and AI consultant rank first and second, respectively, as the most in-demand roles in LinkedIn’s analysis, which tracked millions of career transitions between January 2022 and July 2024. The platform attributes the surge to rapid advancements in AI technology and its integration across industries. The roles are part of a broader shift toward emerging technologies, with other tech-focused positions like AI researcher also breaking into the report’s top 25 for the first time.

Diversified growth sectors

While AI dominates the top spots, other sectors are experiencing notable growth, reflecting a shift in workforce priorities post-pandemic. Physical therapists (third), workforce development managers (fourth), and sustainability specialists (ninth) are among the roles highlighting the demand for healthcare, employee training, and environmental responsibility.

Travel adviser (fifth) and event coordinator (sixth) are new additions to the list, driven by a rebound in travel and live events following the disruptions of COVID-19. The remaining top 10 roles include director of development, outside sales representative, and security guard, showcasing a mixed bag of traditional and emerging professions.

Shaping the future of work

LinkedIn emphasized the transformative nature of this year’s findings.

“Almost half of this year’s Jobs on the Rise in the US didn’t exist 25 years ago,” the report said, citing roles like workforce development manager and chief growth officer as examples of how work environments continue to evolve.

First-time entries on the full list of 25 roles include community planner, land agent, bridge engineer, and commissioning manager, reflecting the diversification of opportunities in construction, urban development, and project management.

Job mobility and worker sentiment

The report lands as US workers appear increasingly open to job changes. A ResumeTemplates.com survey from late October found 56% of full-time employees plan to seek new opportunities in 2025. For HR leaders, such trends highlight the importance of adapting recruitment strategies to attract top talent in fast-growing fields.

As industries transform, understanding the nuances of these emerging roles will be critical. From integrating AI expertise to supporting sustainability initiatives and managing post-pandemic demands, HR departments are poised to play a pivotal role in shaping the workforce of the future.
