Chipotle Mexican Grill has announced a series of executive leadership changes, co-joining legal and HR roles and introducing interim marketing leadership, as part of a long-term growth strategy.

Ilene Eskenazi, previously Chipotle’s Chief Human Resources Officer, has been appointed Chief Legal and Human Resources Officer, expanding her responsibilities to include oversight of the company’s legal function. She succeeds Roger Theodoredis, who has transitioned out of his role as Chief Legal Officer and General Counsel.

Stephanie Perdue, Vice President of Brand Marketing, has been named Interim Chief Marketing Officer, taking over from Chris Brandt, who has transitioned out of his role as President and Chief Brand Officer. The leadership changes take effect immediately.

Both Theodoredis and Brandt will remain with Chipotle in advisory capacities for a limited period to support the transition.

Expanded role reflects HR and legal focus

Eskenazi brings extensive experience across both legal and human resources leadership. Before joining Chipotle in 2023 as CHRO, she held combined legal and HR roles at several consumer products companies, including Petco Health and Wellness Company, Boardriders, and Red Bull North America. Her earlier career includes serving as a corporate attorney at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom.

“Ilene is a valued member of our executive leadership team, and her perspective has been instrumental over the years,” Boatwright said. “I look forward to continuing to collaborate with Ilene and our exceptional team as we hire top talent and invest in our people to deliver on our growth strategy and take Chipotle to the next level.”

CEO Scott Boatwright, thanked the outgoing executives for their contributions.

“I would like to thank Roger and Chris for their leadership and many contributions throughout their time at Chipotle,” he said. “Roger has been a trusted advisor to our leadership team and Board of Directors, while Chris has been instrumental in helping Chipotle become a purpose-driven lifestyle brand.”

Search underway for permanent CMO

The fast food chain confirmed that it has begun both an internal and external search for a permanent chief marketing officer, supported by a leading executive search firm. The company said the process is intended to ensure continuity across strategic marketing initiatives while a long-term appointment is made.

Boatwright said the company benefits from a strong internal marketing team during the interim period.

“Chipotle has a deep bench of marketing talent, and we are fortunate to have Stephanie take on the interim role overseeing our strategic marketing initiatives, customer engagement and incredible brand loyalty as we conduct a comprehensive search for our next CMO,” he said.
