A Disney employee was injured after stepping in front of a runaway prop during a live stunt show at its Florida theme park, prompting a review of safety protocols.
The incident occurred during a performance of the Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular, where a large rubber boulder rolled off its track while recreating a scene from the 1981 movie Raiders of the Lost Ark. A video of the moment has been widely circulated, showing the prop moving toward the audience area as guests looked on.
At first, some in the crowd appeared amused by the mishap, but that quickly shifted as the 400-pound ball bounced towards them. A park employee moved into its path, bracing with his forearms in an attempt to stop it.
The worker was knocked to the ground by the impact but successfully halted the prop’s movement before it reached the audience. He remained on his back following the collision as other employees rushed to his aid.
The official Disney Parks Blog confirmed the prop involved is made of rubber and weighs 400 pounds. A Disney spokesperson acknowledged the incident but did not provide details on when it happened or the severity of the employee’s injuries.
“We’re focused on supporting our Cast Member, who is recovering,” Disney said in a statement. “Safety is at the heart of what we do, and that element of the show will be modified as our safety team completes a review of what happened.”
Safety review follows viral moment
The Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular is a long-running attraction that demonstrates staged action sequences inspired by the Steven Spielberg film franchise. In the original movie, Harrison Ford portrays the eponymous adventure-loving archaeologist who narrowly escapes a massive rolling boulder while attempting to retrieve a golden idol from a booby-trapped chamber.
The Florida park performance recreates that moment as part of a live demonstration for guests, blending pyrotechnics, props, and choreographed movement. The runaway prop came off its track during the demonstration, causing the employee to intervene.
Disney said the specific element of the show involved in the incident will be adjusted while the safety review is underway. No timeline was provided for when the modified version will be introduced or whether additional changes are being considered.
