'Leverage' | Want to get hired? Embrace AI, Mark Cuban urges Gen Z

Mark Cuban and CEOs from Apple and Nvidi

High-profile entrepreneur Mark Cuban, believes the next generation of workers will thrive if they master artificial intelligence and guide older managers on how to use it.

“That is every single job that’s going to be available for kids coming out of school,” he says.

Gen Z opportunity in AI

Cuban argues the technology represents an opening for younger employees, even as many graduates face hiring freezes or firms assume talent can be outsourced to machines.

“Learn all you can about AI, but learn more on how to implement them in companies,” the billionaire said.

He pointed to failures in corporate trials, saying: “95% of all generative AI pilots are flopping, and it’s left a gaping opportunity for Gen X and baby boomer bosses to be taught how to actually implement the technology the right way.

“Learn to customize a model, walk into a company, show the benefits. That is every single job that’s going to be available for kids coming out of school.”

The former Shark Tank investor has urged young people to use their “excess time” learning how tools such as OpenAI’s Sora and Google’s Veo differ, and how to tailor AI models to small business needs.

“There are millions of companies that have one, five, 10, 50, 100, 500 people that aren’t going to have AI budgets, that aren’t going to have AI experts. This is where kids get hired,” Cuban said.

CEOs demand AI adoption

Cuban has called AI “leverage” and warned: “If you’re not using [AI] to move faster or make smarter decisions, you’re behind.” He added: “The most successful entrepreneur will understand how to properly use AI.”

Other chief executives have echoed the sentiment. Apple’s Tim Cook recently told employees: “All of us are using AI in a significant way already, and we must use it as a company as well. To not do so would be to be left behind, and we can’t do that.”

Nvidia’s Jensen Huang described the pace of change as immediate. “Every job will be affected, and immediately. It is unquestionable,” he said at the Milken Institute’s Global Conference earlier this year.

“You’re not going to lose your job to an AI, but you’re going to lose your job to someone who uses AI.”
