A new LinkedIn report highlights significant shifts in workplace skills, with adaptability and technical expertise emerging as key priorities for employers navigating AI-driven change.
The 2025 LinkedIn Work Change Report reveals that 70% of the skills used in most jobs will change by 2030, with AI playing a major role in reshaping professional requirements. Since 2022, LinkedIn members have added new skills to their profiles at a rate 140% higher than before, reflecting the growing urgency towards upskilling.
While technical proficiency in AI tools is increasingly valued, employers are also prioritizing durable human skills such as communication, leadership, and empathy. This combination is seen as essential to managing complex business challenges effectively.
AI skills becoming essential in new roles
Artificial Intelligence Engineer has become one of the fastest-growing job titles worldwide, ranking first in key markets including the US, UK, and Netherlands. The number of companies hiring for 'Head of AI' roles has tripled in the past five years, with further growth anticipated as AI integration accelerates.
AI literacy is rapidly expanding across non-technical roles as well. Since 2023, LinkedIn data shows a 177% increase in members adding AI-related skills to their profiles, nearly five times the average growth across all skills. Despite this surge, AI literacy still remains rare, with only one in 500 job postings specifically requiring these skills.
AI is also transforming established roles. Fields such as sales, marketing, healthcare, and HR are seeing increased adoption of AI tools to enhance productivity, automate repetitive tasks, and support strategic decision-making. The report says that professionals equipped with AI skills are 13 times more likely to develop additional human skills such as change readiness and trust-building.
Bridging the skills gap
With businesses actively seeking talent that combines technical knowledge with strong interpersonal skills, organizations are investing heavily in upskilling. The report indicates that 70% of HR professionals are prioritizing training programs focused on AI, soft skills, and sustainability.
LinkedIn CEO Ryan Roslansky emphasized the importance of lifelong learning, encouraging professionals to embrace change by expanding their skillsets, and highlighted adaptability, empathy, and leadership as crucial differentiators in a workforce increasingly shaped by AI.
"Embracing a mindset that values learning and change will be vital for professionals seeking to remain competitive in the evolving job market," Roslansky said.
The report concludes that companies investing in employee development will be better equipped to navigate technological transformation, positioning themselves for long-term growth in an increasingly dynamic world of work.
