The CEO of Vistex, a prominent Illinois-based tech company, lost his life in a tragic accident during the firm's 25th-anniversary celebration at Ramoji Film City in Hyderabad, India.
Sanjay Shah, 56, fell to his death after an iron cage, intended for a planned stunt to kickstart the festivities, malfunctioned, resulting in a plunge of more than 15 feet.
The incident occurred during a two-day celebration organized by Vistex for its silver jubilee. The company had arranged for its employees to stay at Ramoji Film City, and the ill-fated event took place on Thursday evening.
Shah and the company's President, Raju Datla, entered an iron cage that was supposed to be lowered from an undisclosed height. A video posted by the New York Post captured the moment when one of the chains broke, causing both individuals to fall, with Shah landing head-first on the concrete dais.
The police are currently investigating the incident, with a case registered against the event management authorities.
According to statements from law enforcement, one of the wires attached to the cage snapped suddenly, leading to multiple injuries for Shah and Datla. Both men were promptly rushed to a hospital, where Shah succumbed to his injuries. Datla remains in critical condition with a severe head injury.
Vistex, founded by Sanjay Shah in 1999, has grown into a global player with 20 offices worldwide and over 2,000 employees. The company serves clients such as GM, Barilla, and Bayer in the realm of revenue management. The anniversary celebration had brought employees together at Ramoji Film City for a two-day event in honor of Vistex's 25 years in business.
Sanjay Shah, originally from Mumbai, India, had moved to the United States at the age of 17 and achieved his MBA from Lehigh University in 1989.
