HR is fast becoming a key strategic partner to the business. As the function’s role changes it shouldn’t forget Employee Relations (ER).

There can be little perceived glory in maintaining positive ER, and getting it wrong can hit, well, everyone: managers; HR teams; employer brand and the business itself. To quote a HR Director at a leading UK retailer: “You get no thanks for getting ER right. Yet, if you get it wrong there are serious consequences”.

However, ER transformation could be a sure-fire way for HR to be viewed as a strategic partner. ER can bring labour savings through digitisation of processes or reduction in absenteeism costs with improved MI. All have a significant impact on the bottom line, as well as delivering people performance improvements.

Yet, is the risk of “getting it wrong” holding HR leaders back from embracing all the benefits ER transformation can bring? And how can we ensure that transforming ER is understood to have greater reward than risk?

Session one: Understanding the drivers, opportunities and barriers to your transformation projects

  • Analysing where HR is in this overall moment of transformation
  • Understanding what organisational role your HR function plays using the Josh Bersin maturity model: Are you merely offering fundamental services? Or are you being strategic and integrating with the business?
  • What is stopping you from progressing further? What are the biggest challenges? How do you see your HR function ‘maturing’?
  • What are the key facets in the transformation of HR?

11am – End of session one, short break
11:20am – Session two to commence

Session two: Using ER to drive overall HR transformation

  • Why is ER often the poor cousin of the HR function and is it being forgotten in your transformation processes?
  • What are the biggest HR and business opportunities to come out of ER transformation?
  • Is there a tangible ROI for ER transformation? Is it something that can drive quick results?
  • Is ER something that could drive better integrations and aid digital processes rather than being left behind?
