Global Head of People and Operations, The Business of Fashion
Most mornings start early with a cup of coffee and a trip to the ice rink for Hailey Wojcik, Global Head of People and Operations at The Business of Fashion. Below, Hailey sheds light on what one of her days looks like working for the firm. This could consist of anything from an internal transformation project focused on reimagining how to work in a hybrid world, to taking part in the ‘Hour of Power’…
Morning - 04:00am
It’s 4am and my alarm has just gone off. Out of bed with a cup of coffee (or two or three) and I’m out the door before 5am and on my way to the ice rink for early morning practice. As a competitive ice skater – both solo and as part of an adult synchronised skating team – starting my day with something I am passionate about sets my energy and mindset into a positive place for the day. Once home, I take my dog Arlo for a morning run while listening to the BoF podcast Transforming Luxury, which keeps me connected and informed about what is happening in the wider industry.
By 9am I’m at my desk at home ready to start the day. I do my best to get on top of my email inbox and any outstanding Slack messages before we launch into our People Stand-up where we align on priories and blockers for the day. From there, I tend to divide my time between long-term strategic projects and smaller executional plays that keep things moving at pace. The Future of Work, an internal transformation project focused on [reimagining] how we work in a hybrid world is front and centre, and we have opted to take a highly collaborative, transparent approach that is intended to empower our people to design a world that allows them to deliver peak performance in a way authentic to them. So far so good, we’ve received a lot of positive feedback which is always a good sign we are on the right path.
Lunch - 13:00pm
Early in the pandemic we adopted what we call the 'Hour of Power' which is 1-2pm every day and is deemed sacred. This no-meeting window can be used for anything staff want – for lunch, for exercise, to do a mediation session put on by our Wellness Wizards or to crack on with any work they need to finish. Me personally? I am probably chasing my dog Arlo around in the garden – seeing him happy brings so much joy to my day. If it’s Friday, then the whole day is meeting-free, which has allowed us to avoid instances of burnout and Zoom fatigue, an initiative we have kept in a hybrid world. Of course, by this time I will have also had the time to squeeze in a few coffee catch ups with the team to check in on how they are doing, or join in on some Slack banter that keeps things light-hearted and fun. Life is short, so you need to be able to laugh and have fun at work.
I always finish the day feeling grateful for the opportunity to work in a company with such a positive and supportive culture, surrounded by talented and inspiring people who push me to do my best
Afternoon - 15:00pm
It’s 3pm, and if I’m lucky, it’s time for a BoF live event hosted by our talented team and industry experts. I like to live stream this in the background while I set aside 60 – 90 minutes to work on more strategic pieces of work or anything on a tight deadline. Depending on the day, I also meet with Belong – our diversity, equity and inclusion council that consists of seven employee-led networks and boasts a remarkable 80% participation rate of employees in the company. We partner with this group on strategic company initiatives and ensure their voice is represented in decisions made at the top.

Evening - 18:00pm
By 6:30pm, I’m exhausted and ready to wrap up for the day where possible. Although it has been a long and busy day, I always finish the day feeling grateful for the opportunity to work in a company with such a positive and supportive culture, surrounded by talented and inspiring people who push me to do my best. People always says the best part about working at BoF is the team and I couldn’t agree more. Our people are what leave me excited to do it all again the next day.
