Temp worker sent home from PwC office for not wearing heels

A young employee claims she was sent home without pay after refusing to don a pair of heels during work.

Nicola Thorp was working as a receptionist in PwC’s corporate offices in London when she was approached by a supervisor who informed her that her flat shoes were not appropriate work attire. The manager then asked that she return to work wearing two to four inch heels, according to the Evening Standard.

    Outrageous. Shameful!! Then let's ask men to do the same and we'll see how long they'll last in heels and how well they'll perform in ther job in pain. Was wearing heels part of her job description??? Wearing heels forces your feet in an unnatural position: some people do not have issues with that but others do and would struggle to welcome customers with a smile while feeling very uncomfortable. It should be a choice not a requirement in any work environment.

    It’s iniquitous because men are not required to wear any item which causes injury simply through wearing it. Let’s put sexism and the possibility of accidents aside, just wearing heels is physically damaging. Employers have a duty to assess and control risks in the workplace - shouldn't this extend to their dress code?

    I feel a "National Cross Dressing Day" coming on. It'll have to be Monday to Friday of course, so PwC can be shown up to be the dinosaurs they clearly are.

    This is ludicrous. I am always smartly dressed wearing flats. My feet could not stand wearing heels all day.

    I think you should, why be bound by what society dictates you wear as a male? break free... you know you want too
