McDonald's worker celebrates 59th anniversary with chain

They say if you love what you do, you’ll never work a day in your life – never has this been truer than in the case of McDonald’s employee Willie Calhoun.

Calhoun has worked for the fast food giant for 59 years, ever since he was 14 years-old. In honour of this monumental achievement, his branch in Georgia, US, threw Calhoun a special party to celebrate both his 73rd birthday and his 59th year at work – The Daily Mail reports.

"I started off in Sandy Springs, to two more stores and ended up here," he said. "This is where I've been a very long time."

Calhoun went on to explain how working at the branch had been a “great experience”, admitting that he has never really thought about leaving his role.

Restaurant Co-Owner, Maj Andalibi, praised Calhoun’s service and loyalty to his profession, saying: “He's one of the hardest workers we have. He's never late, he works as hard as five other staff members that we have.”

Another Co-Owner, Mary Portalatin, similarly sung Calhoun’s praises, commenting to the Brookhaven Post: “He's a wonderful guy. He's got a great attitude back there, a wonderful sense of humour.

“It's incredible how he can do the work, be cheerful at the same time, and sort of get everybody around him in a good mood. He just puts his heart and soul in everything he does.”

According to his colleagues, Calhoun was working seven days each week at one point in his long career – though he has now cut that back to three days.

Calhoun was adamant that he would continue to work at McDonald’s for as long as he could.
